Challenge: [168] Room 317
Title: Summer Assignment
Word Count: 472
Rating: T
Spoilers: Um. Roxas's beginning of KHII. Except Roxas isn't in here at all.
Notes: Be gentle? I haven't written fic in months, and haven't written anything (including NaNo) in weeks. This is probably one of the most cliched versions of this prompt, but I like creepy things. Um. I mean, just read it.
Room 317 is known for being abnormally creepy. It’s in a fairly old hotel in the back end of Twilight Town, so nobody really questions why the key hook for the room 317 is never empty. Some guests create stories about ghosts haunting the hotel, and others proclaim to their friends that they’ve seen such ghosts. No one really has, though.
Hayner, knowing that his summer assignment has to be the coolest, grabs Olette and Pence with him, ignoring both his and their shaking knees, and runs to the hotel. Seifer was only planning to check out the old mansion – but that’s already been done. No one cares about that.
From the way Olette’s hands are fidgeting, he can bet that she’d rather be at the mansion.
Hayner frowns, and leaves his best friends at the lobby of the hotel. He grabs the old key and hikes up the stairs, approaching the old room. A strange smell is wafting through the cracks on the door, but he unlocks it and pushes in without a second thought.
When he’s inside, he only rolls his eyes. There’s nothing weird about this room!
The door quietly shuts behind him.
He glances on the bed (and peeks under the covers), realizes that the rumors are just stupid. Man, are Olette and Pence going to feel stupid when they find out the truth –
What was that?
Hayner gulps, and turns towards the bathroom door. He could’ve sworn he heard a moan … no. It had to have been nothing! Because there’s nothing there…right?
He bites his lip and peeks into the bathroom door. Exactly – nothing there. No monsters, no – wait.
The shower curtain is closed.
Hayner’s really shaking now, as he debates with himself to pull back the curtain. He really, really just wants to run the hell out of the room, but he needs this evidence for his project.
Besides, he’s no wimp!
He pulls back the curtain, and stifles a scream. In the bath tub (is that blood?!), lay two boys, smiling at each other with dead eyes. Hayner stumbles over his own feet, trying to get out of the bathroom, when he suddenly realizes that the door is strangely locked. He lets out a scream, and pounds on the door, when there’s a sleepy yawn.
As Hayner slowly turns back to the tub, the brown, spiky haired boy grins at him. “We have him, don’t we, Riku?”
The other boy brushes his silver hair out of his face and meets Hayner’s frightened eyes with his lifeless ones. “Yes, Sora. We do.”
Even though Olette and Pence (and later, Hayner’s parents) get police assistance, Hayner is never seen again. All that’s remains of him are his echoing screams on the third floor and two smiling, dead boys in the bloody bath tub of room 317.
