Challenge: Rain
Title: Imprisoned
Word Count: 298. It was originally longer. *meeps*
Notes: Kairi really needs to stop coming to me with tears in her eyes. It’s starting to become a little too much to write all these sad things about her, and I’m starting to feel sorry for her, the poor dear. *hugs her* Also, “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen, despite being unsure of what it wants to be—maybe an angsty bohemian song, maybe an overdramatic Italian opera, maybe a 1980s rock anthem—is an awesome song.

Imprisoned

Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide
No escape from reality
Open your eyes
Look up to the skies and see…

Bohemian Rhapsody
Queen

Her fingers thrash her soft pillow, its gentle touch feeling like the end of a villain’s knife in her tainted sleep. Her fingernails, dirty and short, entangle themselves in the mess of her hair, yanking as if meaning to draw blood from her scalp.

That’s when she snaps her eyes open, awake but agonizingly numb, aware only of the fact that she is alive. She sits up, with puppet-like movements, in her bed, noticing her room, never remembering it to be so white.

She tries as hard as she can to hold back her glass-shard tears, made sour by the promises that were thrown away like a child’s worthless toys. The images return to her like pieces of a ruined film strip, the negative colors twisting her mind—Sora and Riku, falling into darkness and crying for help before they vanished forever into an endless pit of fire, and the cruel serpent that laughed to see her heart eaten away, screaming in laughter to see her murdered, her soul in between its yellowed teeth.

The promise of sunshine—that bright feeling of paradise that she has forgotten in all of the time she has floated in deep darkness—forces her to get out of bed and to shun the horrifyingly vivid nightmare her mind has tormented her with. She races to the curtain with sudden energy, remembering long-ago days and the first feel of the sun-warmed sand when she came from a broken world.

She feels otherworldly pain course through her as her eyes tell her that the world drowns beneath the tears of heaven—cold, dark tears of sorrows untold.

And, feeling the unseen chains curl about her arms and falling to the ground in painful memories, she curses the rain for making her remember how alone she is.
