Challenge: [180] Narrator
Title: Written By The Victors
Word Count: 219.
Spoilers: KHII.
Characters: Apprentices.
Summary: This is how they will look, to history. Because 'they were just like you' is not a truth the future wants to hear.
From A History of Radiant Garden, written 30 years after the Great Heartless Catastrophe—
About the apprentices of King Ansem who usurped him and caused the Catastrophe, little information has survived outside of palace records. The ringleader of the coup was a man known only as Xehanort, who seems to have given no account of himself even when he was gaining the confidence of the king. As for his accomplices, it is suggested that they came from widely disparate backgrounds, sharing only a common malice and ill ambition. Each, however, sought power and evil knowledge, and on this they based their conspiracy.
Between the lines, Dilan grins and punches Braig on the shoulder in greeting, Ienzo laughs at Elaeus’s skillful imitations of their friends, Xehanort and Even vie for the approval of their master. Between the lines, they share dreams, loves, and fears, but above all the light in their eyes when the beauty of science is laid bare to them. Between the lines, they each alone ache as they choose between love and love, between two roads both, as they believe, right and both unbearably wrong, a choice each can only make alone, though after the choice is made they all stand together. Between the lines, they are terrified when darkness unexpected devours them.
Only between the lines.
