Spoilers: None, I think. o.o
Summary: "Gypsies don't do well inside stone walls." But then, who does?
The newest mission to Paris caught his interest – a rarity in and of itself. Intrigued by the idea of a festive culture and a chance for fresh air, Demyx was quick to volunteer. Besides, at least Paris didn't have a Cerberus; not to his knowledge, anyway.
Instead of watching the Festival of Fools and observing Paris folk life, however, he found himself confined in a cathedral to take care of business. Lingering around the church and keeping tabs on an old judge wasn’t the most exciting job, but he had volunteered for the mission, after all. Lesson learned.
Still, it was difficult not to feel restless. Water might have been powerful kept behind a dam, but it was in its nature to move, to flow, to be free.
The monotony was finally broken on a dreary afternoon when the cathedral became home to a female prisoner.
Standing on a ledge on the upper level of the cathedral, he watched the sanctuary’s newest inhabitant from a distance. The woman paced quietly down the main corridor, carefully studying the holy structure that held her captive. Demyx had no doubt that she was looking for a means of escape, a weakness etched in the stone that would grant her freedom. He couldn’t blame her.
He must have made a sound, for she whipped her head up to glare at him on his perch. Her vibrant green eyes had all of the grace of a tiger – powerful, strong-willed, cunning.
Hunted.
In her eyes, a black cloak was synonymous with the enemy, and her gaze darkened more with blatant disgust. Although a little disoriented from being spotted so abruptly, Demyx stood his ground and slowly lifted a hand in neutral greeting. Irked more, she gave an exasperated sound before taking off down another hallway with her little goat at her heels, disappearing from sight. There were only so many places she could run to in the cathedral, but she ran anyway.
A cage was a cage was a cage, and suddenly the mission lost all appeal.
