Challenge [195]: Chance Meeting
Title: the hollow men
Wordcount: 345
Notes: So, I actually wanted this to be some sort of cracky romance drabble, but, uh, you can see how well that worked out.
Axel finds her because her heart is the strongest on the little planet he’s decided to call Gamma Upsilon Six, just because the book Larxene happened to throw at him yesterday was science fiction. The ground is pockmarked with craters and scorched for miles around, so Axel decides to take credit for the destruction and give himself some down time.
She’s gorgeous and gifted with the most amazing breasts Axel’s ever seen, and very clearly not of this world, since everything around them for miles is dead. “So,” Axel begins, shifting his hips and leaning towards her, but she only raises a cool eyebrow and he changes direction, “are you just the janitor, running clean-up for the big boys while they run around the worlds?”
“No, I’m not,” and Axel already likes her more. “I chase them.” Something in her eyes is rubbed raw, so Axel softens his smirk into a smile. “I’m their light.”
“What would you say if I told you that the darkness is as strong as you?”
She smiles at that, her soft mouth turned even more softly upwards. “I already know. It’s not his strength that matters, anyway. What about Cl—? What about the other man? What about his heart?”
“A heart that can’t choose, even when the options are clear and attractive?” He sweeps her body with his eyes, but the anger in hers suddenly makes her so much less interesting. A woman in love. “A heart like that is weak. I wouldn’t even call him a man. A child, maybe.”
“And you? What choice did you make, man without a heart?” That makes Axel laugh, because maybe he has underestimated her, but on the other hand, if she understood what she has said, she would know the answer to her question. Still, Axel is a liar, and so he knows when the truth should be told.
“I did not choose.”
“Then I wouldn’t call you much of a man.”
“I’m not.” A warning, but as he slips away, it’s also the greatest gift she will ever know.

Date: 2009-08-03 04:59 am (UTC)I like your Axel a lot. :3 He's very aware of the feelings of others around him, even if he himself doesn't have any. It's really neat. :3
Good luck!
