Title: tuesday the twelfth
Wordcount: 310
Summary: It may or may not be Sora's birthday.
“Guess what day it is tomorrow, Riku?”
“Tuesday?”
“What? No!”
“Yes it is,” Riku taunted, sticking out his tongue. “Today’s Monday.”
“What is tomorrow besides Tuesday, then?” Sora asked.
“The twelfth?”
“No, Riku!”
“Yes it is,” Riku singsonged. “Today’s the eleventh, dummy.”
“I know, Riku!” Sora all but wailed. “But tomorrow’s something else.”
“Well, what is it?” Riku asked, while a grin threatened to take over his mouth.
“If you don’t know I’m not telling you. And I have to go home now. There’s my mom.” Sora stomped off before Riku could say anything.
-
At five o’clock the next morning, Riku climbed through Sora’s unlocked window. He banged both of his knees and got his hair caught in a spider’s web, but managed not to wake Sora up. Sora snored loudly, sprawled on his bed with his rocket ship pajamas, and Riku rolled his eyes.
“Hey, Sora,” he whispered, but Sora only rolled over and made a noise that Riku could only identify as ‘snrfl.’ “Hey, Sora,” he tried again, this time shaking Sora’s shoulder gently. This time Sora opened his bleary blue eyes and murmured “Mom, guess what day it is?” before he realized it was Riku.
“Riku!” Sora started to squeal, and Riku clamped a hand over Sora’s mouth while shushing him.
“Riku,” Sora whispered. “What are you doing? Did you sneak in through the window? That’s so cool!”
Riku only rolled his eyes and ruffled Sora’s spiky hair. “Since it’s Tuesday and the twelfth,” he paused to let Sora frown at him, “I figured I could give you this.” He pulled a conch shell from his pocket, a huge, gleaming, white spiral of a thing and Sora gaped.
“You remembered after all!”
“Duh,” Riku scoffed. “It’s not every day your best friend turns six.”
“Seven, Riku! I’m seven!”
“Yeah, I know,” Riku laughed. "Happy birthday, Sora."
