Reflection

Challenge: In Darkness
Title: Reflection
Word Count: 124
The skin of her fingers, as soft as a mother's, with the chilly firmness of a snake's hide, ghosts over the back of his neck, so gently, so gently, as she trails those painted claws through his hair---a soft bed of feather, neglected, forgotten amongst more important things like clandestine errands, reflections of fragmented relationships, and hours spent here, here in the coiling, colorful darkness of his new home.
"Poor child," she croons, ever-so-sweet with subtle mockery, her voice a silk poison to his ears. A stray fingernail skims his jaw, igniting a bone-chattering, nerve-crawling shudder in his boyish frame. Glossy, obsidian wings flutter from their perch on her shoulder, a silent chuckle reciting his broken destiny.
"Go away," he whispers. "Go away."
