It's ok, she thinks, watching the way a sparring match between her best friends turns into childish wrestling, punctuated by helpless laughter.

There's no room for her in the way Riku and Sora seem to need each other, but she tells herself easily enough, It's ok. In a little while they'll remember that she's their friend too. And even though the warmth that Sora will extend won't be the same steadfast, wrenching, unnatural closeness that Riku gets, it's still something. Food for the thing inside her that never seems any less hungry and makes her a little ashamed.

She'll drink Sora's smiles and she'll breathe his proximity when they stretch out in the sand and their arms brush carelessly. Because Sora's the sun that fills her sky and chases the shadows that nothing else can.

Because Kairi will take what she can get, and try to ignore the way she feels like a pauper holding onto fool's gold.

Sometimes I think KH1 was "Kairi's game" and KH2 was "Riku's game"--at least in terms of who Sora cared for and missed the most.

Beautiful imagery. It's also quite sad. :/ Poor Kairi.

Very nice. It's short and sweet and I love the last line. :)

The fact it's such a short piece makes it even sadder than it is. Love the last line, it's very beautiful. ^-^
