Challenge [287]: The Last Moment
May. 24th, 2012 11:49 amTitle: The Last Moment
Challenge: [287] Breathless
Word Count: 175
Notes: Based off of part of Ventus's story.
He almost can’t breathe.
He wishes he couldn’t, wishes with all his being that there was some way out of this, wishes again and again with every creature that crawls out of the ground.
Cold sweat breaks out across his neck and forehead. He’s so numb he barely feels it.
Too many- can’t fight.
Too many-can’t run.
He tries- he does- he tries so hard, forces his throat to work and turn what little air he can get into words, begs and pleads with his Master to spare him.
His Master isn’t moved. He just repeats himself. He won’t waste new words on him.
Suddenly one of the creatures leaps forward towards him, claws outstretched, and it’s like a catch has been released, his lungs flooding with air.
It’s instinct alone that moves his arm- wrong one, defense, defense- up across him as his Keyblade clatters to the floor, and his last breath comes out as a desperate scream before he drops like a stone.
Only it isn’t his last breath.
He’s not that lucky.
