Between Friends
Sora stood on the beach facing his two best friends, Riku on one side, Kairi on the other.
This was it. The time had come. He had to make a decision. Sora felt like his whole life had led up to this moment.
He couldn't bear it. This was too hard! And totally unfair. Why did he have to choose? He loved them both!
"You've made us wait long enough, Sora," Riku said, his quick temper snapping under the stress of waiting. "If you don't choose NOW, you're not gonna get a choice."
"But I..." Sora began, trying to stall for more time.
"Just pick, Sora," Kairi said with a confident smile. "Either way, it'll be okay."
"Well..." Sora's eyes darted from one loved one to the other. "I guess...If I HAVE to choose...I pick both!" With a wide smile, he leapt at his friends, snatching the ice cream out of Kairi's hand and the popsicle out of Riku's, and jamming both into his mouth at once.
"...that's disgusting," Riku commented, as the overflow of frozen treat dribbled down Sora's chin onto his clothes.
"Sora, you pig!" Kairi laughed, delighted.
"You're gonna get brain-freeze," Riku warned, right before the splitting headache struck.
"Waaaaaaugh! Auuuuuuuuuuuuuugh!" Sora hollered around his gigantic mouthful of popsicle ice cream, dizzy from the freezing pain.
"Doofus." Riku grabbed him and sat him down on the beach before Sora fell over. He sat down on one side of him while Kairi sat down on the other. Together, they watched the waves roll in.
After a few minutes, when Sora had recovered, he smiled at his two best friends. "Hahah, that was awesome. You guys are the best!"
Riku reached over to roughly muss his hair affectionately and Kairi touched Sora's arm before leaning close for a half-snuggle.
Destiny Islands was the best place in the world.

Date: 2006-03-08 07:16 am (UTC)The melodramatic nature of the choice in Sora's head even works well for the character beause he is pretty silly. I can see him making a choice of treats into a matter of life or death decision. It is also very like him to do something so ridiculous as stuff his face full of frozen treat. I love Kairi's reaction to his antics. You are very good at capturing the voice patterns of the separate characters in such a short piece.
I mean, this sort of thing would *only* work in a drabble. But drabbles are excellent for surprise endings and silliness. It's a very cute and surprising little piece.

The dialogue that you use works so well for both scenarios. You do a good job of camouflaging youractual agenda.
Thanks!

XD True.

Thanks. I keep working on it. I feel like I get a little better in every piece.
Thanks for reading and leaving such a nice, detailed comment. =)

Date: 2006-03-17 03:35 pm (UTC)Yes, it was definitely meant that way. I'm a Riku/Sora slasher, so I'm beaten down with this hypothetical scenario far too often and felt it needed mocking.
Though I won't say there's nothing wrong with me. ;)
Mucha gracia.
